Rangitoto Island is a volcanic Island 5.5 km wide and is an iconic and widely visible landmark of Auckland, with its distinctive cone rising 260 metres (850 ft) high over the Hauraki Gulf. Rangitoto is the most recent and the largest of the approximately 50 volcanoes of the Auckland volcanic field. Rangitoto was formed by a series of eruptions between 600 and 700 years ago. Visitors to Rangitoto can walk through the lava fields and may also walk through some of the larva caves, the more accessible of the caves are signposted. Rangitoto is around 30 minutes from our second launch location ( Arkles Bay ) with any of our vessels.
